OKAY THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY NOW

lazulisong:

GUYS

THE ONLY ONE THAT LOKI ACTUALLY GAVE BIRTH TO

WAS THE HORSE

EVERYBODY ELSE HE HAD WITH AN ACTUAL FEMALE CO-PARENT. (The giantess Angrboða for Fenrir, Jörmungandr, and Hel, Sigyn for his two other um not monster offspring. Man, someone legit looked at Loki and thought, I should marry that and have kids with it. Respect.)

NOT THAT I MIND THE MPREG BUT

COME ON, GUYS, REALLY?

Odin’s sons, Thor, Loki and Balder (The SUper Asgardian BROS). I drew Loki angry at the “cold” attitude of Balder and a very happy Thor with his siblings.
Loki - “Gods, I hate that guy…”
Thor - Come on everybody say M-JOL-NIR

//Lol, i was trying to guess who was who before it was colored and i think i just switch everyone two clockwise rotations OTL
but this is prettyy my precious balder do not look mad

Sob, i love BLT.

Man, I am FASCINATED to know where they’re going to go with the storyline for Thor 2. Really would love to see them mining mythology good and proper - I guess it would be tricky to incorporate Balder at this juncture, but that would be splendid…

OMG. That’s Svartalfheim (V, not C), and Nidavellir (two Ls), and Niflheim (that’s F-L, not L-F). Just. People. So many typos. ;__;

*facepalm* I’m not sure how I managed to miss that.

Philip Obermarck brings us the mummified heart of a Norse giant.
While going through his famous grandfather’s belongings after his passing in 1937, violinist Lars Sigerson discovered this casket with its gruesome contents. It appears to have been passed from generation to generation within his family for hundreds of years. The explanation and whatever story that goes with it has been lost to the ages.
The inscription on the casket is written in old Norse runes and reads: “Behold! Within this casket lies the heart of the fierce and terrible giant known as Hrungnir, slain this day by Fafrd the Red whose bravery and cunning shall live forever!” @propnomicon.blogspot.com

I really hope this is a real thing.

Loki Laufeyson is best known as the God of Mischief, but he is much more. He is one of the three Gods who gifted humankind with life. He is the God of the Hearthfire, a place more commonly held by Goddesses in other pantheons. He is the mother of Sleipnir, Odin’s eight-legged stead. Some of His other children include Fenrir, the World-Eating Wolf; Jörmungandr, the Midgard-Serpent; and Hel, the Giantess-Goddess of the Underworld. Most interesting and least known, however, is that Loki is the patron God of Ergi, or, Unmanly Behavior. Ergi includes a wide array of attributes and activities, from cross-dressing to receiving anal penetration. Also of interest, argr, the adjectival form of ergi, also translates in modern usage as angry or annoyed. In conclusion, Loki is (one of) the patron God(s/esses) of Hard Femme.

do you think someone would finally write me marvel movieverse fic about loki flyting if i explained what flyting was

i.e., “viking rap battles” or “norse shade-throwing”

modern lokasenna, that’s all i want

Loki: Bold seemst thou sitting, / but slack art thou doing, / Bragi, thou pride of the bench! / Come forth and fight / if in truth thou art wroth; / a bold warrior bides not to think.

(….)

Loki: Silence, Njörd! / Thou wast eastward sent / as hostage from hence by the gods; / there into thy mouth / flowed the maids of Hymir / and used thee as trough for their floods.

THERE SHOULD TOTALLY BE FLYTING FIC

In my view the single most significant line about Loki in the sources comes at the end of the catalog of aesir in the Gylfaginning section of the Edda of Snorri Sturluson: Loki is “also numbered among the aesir,” that is, he is counted as one of them even though he may actually not be one. Indeed, given the principle of reckoning kinship along paternal lines only, Loki is no god but a giant, since he has a giant father, Fàrbauti. His mother, Laufey or Nàl, may well have been one of the aesir, but that should not count.

tumblr isn’t letting me reblog my own posts to my main blog any more but i wanted to bring this chunk of text on loki by john lindow back

because

i’m really fond of it.

Get outta town. Lauffey was Loki’s MOTHER.??? Abandon all gender expectations when dealing with ice giants!!! ( not all that off the wall, since Loki has a crack at motherhood his own self, but still…)
